First attempt with 3D Studio Max

This is my first attempt using 3D Studio Max, creating an apple, cloning it and placing it on a surface.

First, I created a sphere which I right clicked and converted to Editable poly. Using the Soft Selection tool, I then manipulated the sphere by selecting an area and dragging it to actually make it look like an apple. I rotated the apple around in the perspective viewport so I could edit the apple all of the way round to make it as realistic as possible.

To make the stem, I created a small cone which I also converted to editable poly. I then added a bend modifer with an angle of 31 degrees on the Z axis. I then rotated the cone 180 degrees vertically and then positioned it in the correct place above the apple using the 3 other viewports; top, left and front. Once this was in place, I selected the cone and the apple shape and grouped them together.

I then created a small cylinder to use as a surface. I changed the colour of this and placed it just below the apple. I then cloned the apple to make two other apples, which I rotated and edited slightly, changing the colour of one, to make the final image.

Overall, for a first attempt with 3d Studio Max, I think I have made a reasonable effort and hopefully with a few weeks practise, getting to learn the controls and the environment, I will be able to create some even more realistic images.
